WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 92 DEGREES BY CHRIS BRACKETT

Bass fishing has been slow this week. Finesse fishing is the way to go right now. This
week anglers need to focus on fishing mid to down lake in 15 to 25 feet of water. Use
a drop shot rig with a hand poured Robo worm in the Aaron's Magic color. The best
areas are around deep rock and brush piles. Other good area's to try are around the
bridges and roadbeds with deep water near by. A Carolina Rigged 10" Yum worm is
also working but bites are few and far between. This week the best worm colors are
green pumpkin, watermelon candy, red bug and blueberry candy. Also if you have the
patience a Norman DD22 has been working but make sure they are generating water
for best results. WE now have all the new DD22 colors for 2008 and they look great.
Please call me at the Resort for any questions on availability.

Hybrid and striper fishing has been fair this week. Most of my fishing is down lake from
Wedhakee Creek to the dam. We are fishing humps, road beds, and the tops of trees.
Use live shad 4-7" long and this time on year it is the best bait to use. To catch shad
throw a cast net under the lights early in the morning around any docks or bridges. The
best place to fish the week was over the trees in 17 to 25 feet of water. Watch your
Lowrance and drop your baits just on top of the trees and hold on. Try the 17 pound
Suffix for this but the fish have been picky so I had to drop back to 10 to 12 lb line.

Crappie fishing has stopped for the most part during the day. The crappie are being
caught on small shad in 20 to 25 feet over brush piles. Most fish are being caught at
night under lights around the bridges and rip rap lake wide. Use small minnows with a
size 4 hook and 4 pound Sufix line for best results. Good jig to use are Jiffy Jigs in
White/White, Green/Black, and red/white. If fishing gets tough, add a minnow on the
back of your jig for extra bites.

Catfish fishing is great. Use cut shad, chicken liver and big night crawlers. Fish these
baits on the bottom in 25 to 30 feet deep and look for the deeper holes. McGee
Roadbed has been full of good sized channel cats feeding around the rocks on the
bottom. You can catch fish around the bridge columns so just move around until you
find them.
